US Education SystemEvery year starting sometime around Labor Day (the first Monday in September) the US Education system welcomes tens of millions of new students into its kindergartens, the first year of school. The top 100 school systems in the country will find room for over 10 million students that day and the number of public school institutions in the US rises every year. So long as a student retains good standing and passes all the courses every year, he or she is entitled to a free education in the public system through the point of a High school diploma (12 years). Special education and dispensation for other students accounts for another few million students who must attend private or special schools, depending on their disability or religious preferences. While the US government does not directly fund such students, ordinarily the government provides grants to such institutions and many even provide certain forms of financial aid to these students. Post-secondary education, usually thought of as college, is not provided to students free of charge, and American education at this level can become quite expensive. Depending on which colleges US students wish to attend, the full comprehensive annual charge for attending can reach $50,000 USD. Ordinarily, the different tiers of institutions allow students to become accommodated within the price range they can afford, but the US Department of Education, US military and state governments can also provide funds to offset the cost of education. There are even tax benefits provided to people who attend post-secondary educational institutions and pay for their own tuition. The US Department of Education provides a widespread loan program that almost any student can qualify for at some level. Based on the income of the family, the student can take out loans at one of several interest rates that are deferred entirely until six months after the student graduates or stops attending schools.
