Four Austrian Universities Join the Global Coalition of Ukrainian Studies
Today in Vienna, four leading Austrian universities – the University of Klagenfurt, the University of Vienna, the University of Graz, and the University of Innsbruck – officially joined the Global Coalition of Ukrainian Studies.
The signing ceremony for the memorandums of accession took place during a meeting between the First Lady of Ukraine, Olena Zelenska, and the heads of these universities. All four higher education institutions already have established partnerships with Ukrainian HEIs in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Chernivtsi, and Drohobych.
“The lectures, courses, and events they organize are especially valuable because in most European textbooks, Ukrainian history was presented in the Russian context. This was shown by a 2022 study by the Ukrainian Institute. But today we're taking another step away from Russian narratives: these universities are joining the Coalition of Ukrainian Studies,” Olena Zelenska emphasized during the meeting.
The Global Coalition of Ukrainian Studies is a state initiative of Ukraine aimed at developing Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar studies worldwide. Its key tasks include overcoming fakes and distortions in the academic environment, as well as creating strong partnerships between Ukrainian and foreign higher education institutions. In total, 67 universities from around the world have already submitted applications to join the Coalition, which indicates a growing global interest in accurate information about Ukraine.
The accession of the Austrian universities is an important step in spreading objective knowledge about Ukraine and its history worldwide.
