The Global Coalition of Ukrainian Studies is an international initiative launched by the First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska in July 2024 during her visit to Washington, DC. The main goal of the Coalition is to unite the efforts of universities and research institutions from around the world to better understand Ukraine and develop Ukrainian studies.

In the context of Russian aggression, it is especially important for the world to understand Ukraine. Therefore, the Coalition works to disseminate truthful information about Ukraine's history, culture and modernity, countering disinformation.

Ukrainian studies is an interdisciplinary field that encompasses both individual disciplines related to Ukraine and the study of Ukraine within other academic disciplines. Among the many areas of study, Ukrainian studies covers the Ukrainian language, literature, history, culture, security issues, Crimean Tatar issues, and many aspects within these fields. The development of Ukrainian studies abroad contributes to strengthening Ukraine's position in the world, popularising its culture and increasing international support.

To support its activities, the Coalition's project office was launched in March 2025. The office establishes communication with Coalition members, candidates and partners, coordinates the process of joining the Coalition for new members, and works on funding new opportunities for the development of Ukrainian studies.

The Global Coalition of Ukrainian Studies was created on the initiative of the Presidential Foundation for Support of Education, Science and Sports, the Ukrainian Institute, the Office of the Crimean Platform, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

We invite universities, research institutions and interested researchers to join the Global Coalition of Ukrainian Studies. Together we can deepen the understanding of Ukraine in the world.
